The lorries arrive every half hour: There is a lot of activity at Wiha's logistics centre on the St. Georgen industrial estate. This is where the Black Forest manufacturer dispatches its hand tools and tool cases to the rest of the world. The new Siedle Secure Controllers in the logistics building ensure that doors and gates are reliably secured with access control, providing excellent protection for the high-quality goods.
The commercial building was already equipped with door communication and electronic access control from Siedle when Wiha moved in. However, the existing technology did not meet Wiha's needs. The manufacturer required flexible access control with individual rights for around 160 employees and secure monitoring of the 9 gates at the loading bays. These passageways must be securely locked when goods are not being delivered or collected.
"User friendly and versatile"
Gebhard Keller is Head of Building Management at Wiha. He looked at what access control solutions were available on the market and came across the Siedle Secure Controller.
The controller can be seamlessly integrated into the existing technology with electronic key readers. But according to Keller, this was an added benefit. What made the Secure Controller stand out was its user friendly complete package: "The Secure Controller has a commissioning wizard. I can use this software to set up the access control myself without any expensive commissioning service." Keller can also manage the access control via the wizard: "We don't need any manufacturer support. The Secure Controller fulfils our high expectations for access control in logistics."
"Impressive day-to-day operation"
Each Secure Controller from Siedle can manage up to 4 inputs. Wiha currently uses three controllers in the logistics centre. They are located at different places in the building and are directly networked with one another. Up to 64 controllers are possible in the network. "We don't need that many," says Gebhard Keller smiling. "But it is good to know that the Secure Controller can be easily extended. If we expand in future, then I know who I can rely on. This access control is impressive in day-to-day operation."
