The entrances to the main building of the German Association of Local Utilities have been designed for barrier-free access. Building communication from Siedle helps facilitate access at the entrance. It complies with the current requirements of DIN 18040 "Construction of accessible buildings".
The Association is based in the centre of the capital city, just walking distance from the German Bundestag building, the Members' offices and the most important ministries. The building specification called for barrier-free planning. To comply with this requirement, there are several doors at the main entrance. One of them is designed to be suitable for wheel chair users, and also permits barrier-free communication for the hard of hearing using the intercom system. The planners anticipated the requirements of DIN 18040 in their design.
The communication system from the Siedle Steel design line is equipped with an electronic status display which provides the hard of hearing with clear messages from the intercom. One of the four status displays provides an optical indication of which function is currently active. If required, the status display can be supplemented by an additional acoustic signal. The status display complies with the requirements of the currently valid standard DIN 18040. This stipulates that communication systems must be included in the barrier-free design.
> Status display

The status display fulfils currently relevant statutory requirements for the disabled and equality legislation as well as "barrier-free construction" standards in respect of visual signalling at the door.
> Standards

An additional access control in the lower area of the system permits operation also from a sitting position. The relevant transponder, the electronic key from Siedle, enables simple door release even for those with restricted fine motor skills.

All-round barrier freedom: Just like at the front entrance, the communication system at the rear is fitted with a status display and an access control system at a height suitable for wheelchair users.
