Digital study: Mobile door communication and geolocation

Location: Upper Bavaria

Architecture: IFUB*, Munich

System planning and -integration: Execution by the client

This detached house combines the best of two worlds: the security of a permanently installed intercom and the freedom of mobile door communication. The Siedle Smart Gateway ensures a secure connection to the Smart Home.

The architecture of the modern single-family home does not reveal what it is made of: an intelligent network with many technical refinements is installed behind the functional facade. The client is an IT expert and pays special attention to security. He doesn't want his real name published; we call him Tom Lenard. He integrated the IP-based technology himself. It follows the needs of the residents and ensures an extraordinary combination of security and freedom. Door communication does its part and combines the best of both worlds.

Reliably connected

The basis of every door communication is the wired installation. It connects outside and inside. If a visitor rings the bell, the electrical impulse travels through the line to the indoor station. And when Tom Lenard activates the code lock of a door station, another impulse triggers the door opener. This standardized installation works reliably at all times, even if Tom Lenard has left the key or his smartphone in the office. Or if the battery of the mobile device is empty. And it is the secure basis for additional intelligent options.

Mobile: the smartphone as a door opener

For Tom Lenard, the smartphone is a natural part of his door communication. It also signals the door call while on the move - and even serves as a door opener in close proximity to the entrance. This is made possible by the intelligent connection of the Siedle system with the KNX building automation. This intelligent connection has a name: Siedle Smart Gateway.

Secure encryption

A second steel intercom is installed at the front door. The code lock is a way for residents to enter the house without a key.

The Siedle Smart Gateway brings the door call with the Siedle app to the smartphone, at the same time it ensures integration into the network. As an IT specialist, Tom Lenard has critically examined the digital security of the interface. The technology with the highest data encryption standard convinces him. Security-relevant data such as the door opener or the camera images from the video intercom are transmitted end-to-end encrypted to the Siedle app in the smartphone and to the Siedle server in Germany. The server location ensures a high level of data protection; the underlying IT processes are also certified in accordance with ISO standard 27001 for data security.

Open to more: opening the door with geolocation

In the digital world of this house, the Smart Gateway also guarantees security. And Tom Lenard continues to test the freedom of the digital world. He uses the location recognition of his smartphone for the door opener. With this so-called geolocation, all he needs to do is press the bell button at the entrance if he has his smartphone with him. The system recognizes that his mobile device is close to the intercom and lets him in. Should the smartphone be lost, Tom Lenard can also delete the digital key remotely. Because for the IT expert, nothing beats mobile freedom - and security.

An unusual combination of security and freedom

Technical backbone

The large control cabinet in the basement forms the heart of the intelligently networked residential building. The Siedle Smart Gateway is the interface to the KNX building automation.

The best of both worlds

The smart single-family home combines the best of both worlds: the security of a permanently installed intercom and the freedom of mobile door communication with geolocation.

Stylish reception

The stainless steel surface of the high-quality Siedle Steel door station is painted in the color of your choice. The intercom integrates video camera, lighting, code lock and mailbox.

The entrance area

The entrance to the house is clearly designed, the colors deliberately reduced to the essentials.

Code lock for keyless entry

A second steel intercom is installed at the front door. The code lock is a way for residents to enter the house without a key.

Always on duty

The Siedle Basic audio indoor station always gives an acoustic signal when a visitor rings the bell.

Information anywhere

The door call arrives at the same time on mobile devices - on the residents' smartphones and on this permanently installed iPad in the hallway. The tablet is also used to control the building technology.
