Think sustainably, act for the environment

It is important to us to take all aspects of sustainability into account and to harmonise the individual measures within our strategy in a meaningful way that builds on one another. Our most recent measures are a good example: since 2025, we have had a new, 500-square-metre photovoltaic (PV) system connected to the grid. This will cover around ten per cent of our annual electricity requirements. This now forms the basis for our gradual transition of our entire vehicle fleet to electric vehicles, which can be charged at our new electric charging points on site. Last but not least, over the past few months we have refurbished the entire façades of our buildings and replaced all the windows.

Siedle has been purchasing all its electricity from renewable energy sources for over 10 years. As a long-established company in the Black Forest, we believe that nature is our best source of energy. To manufacture our intercom systems at our site in Furtwangen, Siedle turns to energy partners who generate electricity from water, wind or sun. In doing so, Siedle is helping to ensure that our long-lasting intercom systems are highly sustainable, right from their production.

Tin solder is a key component in circuit boards. The raw material tin has to be imported – usually from afar. It is often mined under questionable working conditions. Which makes it all the more important to check its origins. Siedle has recently begun to purchase "Fairtin" from the first solder manufacturer to offer certified tin. The company handles over half a tonne of fair trade tin per year. It is housed on printed circuit boards that we manufacture ourselves, which are integrated into door stations, indoor intercom units and power supplies. In this way, Siedle supports better working conditions and more sustainable raw material extraction in Peru.

Sustainability also means manufacturing products that last a very long time – and which can be repaired or upgraded if necessary. Whilst Siedle’s door communication systems are not indestructible, they are extremely robust and durable. Door phones and intercom systems that are decades old are still performing their duties flawlessly to this day. And should they ever break down or reach the end of their long service life, in many cases they can be repaired or modernised with minimal effort. With the help of Siedle home telephones featuring app connectivity, existing systems dating back to 1952 can be upgraded to mobile door communication. The door call is then also received on a smartphone, without the need for any structural alterations.

Siedle’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainability is guided by the United Nations’ (UN) 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These include promoting sustainable industrialisation and supporting innovation (Goal 9), ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns, the environmentally sound management of chemicals and all waste throughout their life cycle (Goal 12), and combating climate change (Goal 13).
