red dot on tour

The red dot design museum in Essen is joining with the Die Neue Sammlung Museum of Munich to stage an exhibition of German design in the Hong Kong Design Institute. "German Design Standards – from Bauhaus to Globalisation" will be showcasing historic exhibits and contemporary product design from December. The exhibition will feature several prize-winning Siedle products.

The two museums have collated exemplary works "made in Germany" for the exhibition – dating back to the age of industrialization through the Bauhaus and Postmodern movements to the present day. The red dot prize-winning exhibits from Siedle are featured as representative of the age of digitization. Siedle product design has without doubt made a contribution to the formation of German design standards, according to the curators. Travelling to Hong Kong will be in-house and handsfree telephones, the modular Siedle Vario system, the signage system from the Siedle Steel design line and Siedle Select.

Die Neue Sammlung in Munich is one of the oldest and largest design museums, whose foundation coincided with the formation of the Deutscher Werkbund association of designers, artists and architects. The red dot award is conferred by the Designzentrum of North Rhine Westphalia; red dot museums are located in the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex World Heritage Site in Essen, and in Singapore. The Hong Kong Design Institute opened its campus at the end of 2010, and is now a centre for around 4,000 students studying creative development processes. The exhibition will remain open in the public gallery until March 2013.
